Chart types

Charts reproduce observed Apple App Store ordering for a country, category and chart type.

  • Top Free: current ordering of free apps.
  • Top Grossing: Apple's published grossing order; no exact revenue is implied.
  • New Apps: recently observed releases in supported feeds.
  • Category charts: storefront ordering within an Apple category.

Ranking movement

Change compares compatible stored snapshots. A gain or loss describes position movement between observations, not a direct change in installs or revenue.

  • New entrant means the app was absent from the comparison snapshot.
  • Exit means it is no longer present in the observed depth.
  • Volatility aggregates movement and churn across groups.

Data statuses

Results identify how their underlying data was produced. Always read the source and update time before making a decision.

  • Live: returned by the source during the current request.
  • Observed: public source data stored with an observation time.
  • Cached: a previous source response shown when live collection is limited.
  • Estimated: a modeled score or range, not private Apple-reported performance.
  • Exact: authorized first-party data only.
  • Beta: provider-dependent coverage that may be incomplete.

Limitations

Apple can update charts between collection times. Availability, chart depth and categories vary by storefront. Always cite the displayed snapshot timestamp.

  • Do not convert rank directly into downloads or revenue.
  • Do not compare different countries as though their market sizes are equal.
  • Stale or unavailable chart pages are excluded from indexable discovery.
